THIS WORK IS FROM CHAPTER 5 ON HR PLANNING, RECRUITMENT, AND SELECTION. Use one thread (discussion post) to complete this work:
In the past, we have talked about hiring the right people for the right place and at the right time. HR planning encourages organizations to ensure that the people in the company are being used effectively to accomplish the organization’s goals
FIRST QUESTION: ON HR PLANNING If your organization had to downsize and 20% of the computer programmers will lose their jobs, how would you recommend to do this? You need to have the downsizing completed in 2 months. Now, remember, you must do this quickly and there are only 50 computer programmers in the entire organization, so this amounts to 10 jobs. Ten jobs out of 50 jobs are quite a lot of jobs that will disappear in 2 months.
Recommend how you would manage this labor surplus. See the text: first several pages on human resources planning in chapter 5.
SECOND QUESTION: ON RECRUITMENT
You are the manager of recruitment for a large retail chain with branches across Canada. Your recruitment team launched a national search for qualified applicants to fill the position of VP of Marketing. The team analyzed the job description and job specifications, designed and posted job advertisements, contracted search firms across the country to assist with the search, and has been receiving resumes from employee referrals. The CEO of the company approached you in private today to request that you put his brother in law at the top of the qualified applicant list to ensure that he gets an interview. The CEO also expects you to “sell” his brother in law as the top contender for the job and do whatever it takes to make sure he gets it. You are reminded that this is a confidential discussion and if you leak the information to anyone, the CEO will fire you.
Recommend what you would do in the situation.
