How would you describe the in your own words
The sandwich feedback method consists of praise followed by corrective feedback followed by more praise. In other words, the sandwich feedback method involves discussing corrective feedback that is “sandwiched” between two layers of praise.
The purported benefits of this technique are twofold: (1) it softens the impact of the criticism or corrective feedback, and, (2) given that a manager is probably more comfortable with praising the employee, the manager finds it easier to discuss problems with the employee’s behavior if this discussion begins and ends with praising the employee.
,How would you describein your own words using the sandwich technique definition and steps provided
The sandwich technique is often misinterpreted to be: good comments – bad comments – good comments o Weakness: Critical feedback should not be viewed as “bad”
. 2. Serial Position Effect o The serial position effect states that people tend to remember information from the beginning (primacy effect) and end (recency effect) of something more than information presented in the middle. o Weakness: Individuals will tend to remember their strengths, but not the critical feedback, thus hampering their ability to improve.
3. Incomplete “Critical Feedback” o Critical feedback often consists entirely of “areas you can improve” or “things you need to work on” or “things I didn’t like.” o Weakness: Most speakers need help not only realizing where they can improve, but how they can improve. In other words, they need specific suggestions for improvement.
How would you describe a modified Sandwich Technique in your own words using the definition and steps provided
A Modified ‘Sandwich Technique’ or ‘Layered Evaluation’ In an attempt to address these weaknesses, the following is a modified sandwich technique with three components rather than two.
1. Sandwich Layer: Bread Focus your feedback comments on Praise—strengths exhibited by the speaker
2. Sandwich Layer: Condiments Focus your feedback comments on Areas for Improvement—where can the speaker improve (introduction?; body?; conclusion?; body language?; voice technique?; audience involvement?, etc…)
3. Sandwich Layer: Meat, cheese, vegetables Focus your feedback comments on Specific Suggestions—how can the speaker improve (e.g. next time you could try outlining the full contents of your presentation in an introduction rather than just starting right in on your first main point)
Weaknesses of the Basic ‘Sandwich Technique’ There are three potential weaknesses with the basic sandwich technique: 1. Good – Bad – Good
